It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over
History repeats it’s self, over and over and over.
A couple of weeks ago I’ve read of Christans blocking American military training in Australia. I thank them for that… as I also believe that hate should be eliminated.
“The military are doing invasion training. They have built a model city inside the base with a mosque in the middle, which the Australians are defending against the Americans,” That what they said.
Apearently the American and Australain military are playing cops and robbers but the setting is what caught my attention, they have a small city with a mosque, not “a place of worship”, but a mosque… it’s not enough that a test of ordinary video game players have a tendency to shoot “Muslim” looking people more than others, why not train the military to actually do that?
I am sure we’ve heard what they say about Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world (actualy many religions claim that) but I do not think the mosque was built to accomodate the needs of Muslims in the army.
America has pulled out of Iraq, but I don’t think it’s over, they will come back, the area is sizzling, as it always is and always was, but now there is this, and there might be some after shocks of the Iranian election and Ahmadi Najad not being liked by his own people or by America… which kinda sounds like Kermit (not the frog, but Kermit Roosevelt Jr.) all over again, and the Israeli soldiers getting some more hate in them agains Arabs by having booklets handed out to them telling them that the Vatican is training hizbollah how to kill Jews… All signs point to something nasty about to happen, these are the times I hope I’m wrong, I really hope I am wrong.

As usual a wonderful inspiring post–though this one is anxiety provoking! LOL
My understanding from the linked article is that the Australians have built a model Middle Eastern city including a model mosque at the centre, on one of their army bases (the size of Belgium–must be in the outback then, including the Australian desert); and now they are engaged in war exercises, code named Talisman Sabre (gotta love it in a sardonic way) with the Australians trying to hold the “Middle Eastern City” against an attack by Americans, all in the name of “invasion training”.
Aside from the Baptist 4 there is also a Catholic trying to mess up Australian military bases. Historically Quakers have been excellent at constructive conscientious objection.
Oh, Kermit, I bet a great many now think Mossadegh would have been better, no Shah, no SAVAK,no Khomeini.
Haaretz is such a high quality Israeli daily that this article about the IDF official booklet claiming the Vatican is training Hezbollah on how to kill Jews is particularly disturbing, and of course the booklet contains the obligatory Holocaust/Auschwitz reference. At some point, these constant invocations of the Holocaust are denigrating to the genocide that it was (as Anna Ornstein an Auschwitz survivor and now American pscyhiatrist has written).
I find this quote in the article particularly offensive:
“Avi [former Hezbollah, now pro-Israel Jew] is a real person and everything in the book is absolutely true,” insists Menahemov. “It’s a totally true story, I know the guy personaly. He’s an Arab, who even though he converted still acts like an Arab. We helped him to write and to translate it. We changed a few details to protect him and his family.”
In other words, once an Arab always an Arab, even an Arab Jew, and too stupid to protect his own identity and his family, despite Hezbollah (and Vatican!) training. How incredibly racist!
I’m off to drink camomile tea (anxiolytic), and watch nature! LOL

Kermit (the frog) is my second favorite right after miss Piggy!
Can’t believe the money the whole world waste on building mock towns that can’t even double as a movie set!
P.S. Spend an hour watching a news channel or reading a newspaper and you would think the whole world is going to explode! But surprisingly life goes on!!
For me it’s going to be tabloids only in addition to ‘Luxe TV’ and the ‘Travel channel’

A man of excellent taste in puppets, wisdom about “quality television” (often an oxymoron) and movie producer potential. LOL

Ok this time I will stir up waters…i mean i don’t see anything wrong in a tranning exercise where it is reproduced a village with a mosque since the coalition is fighting in Afghanistan and still have bases around Iraq.
I didn’t read the article (I find Harreetz too lefty for my taste) yet but IMHO I don’t see anything wrong to protect Avi, he’s a converted and he passed to the “enemy” so he need protection, i didn’t ind the quote offensive I reckon that by Arab they meant the background, the culture, he changed his religion but his background remains.

Thanks
Countrygirl,
Good comment, yet building it on a basis of a mousque is more suggestive than anything… and to the way Harreetz said it… well… they kind of said it like this, well Ben Affleck says it well in this video.
Thanks

Country girl–Thanks for the opportunity to discuss this further and to clarify. What I found offensive, wasn’t that, as you say, he obviously requires protection, but the insistance that in the write up he needed to be helped with being anonymous. I have no doubt he would need help with a translation to Hebrew, and with how to make the specialized aspects of his work comprehensible to a broader audience, but I would imagine Hezbollah does train its people well in how not to reveal their identity or that of their family. The line about remaining culturally Arab to me was gratuitous, or at least confusing. Is it, “Don’t worry we don’t fully trust this guy” or “You can trust he is telling the truth”? It isn’t a big point but I did read the Haaretz article closely and it stuck out as odd, as did the Pope touring Hezbollah around Auschwitz to help them know how to better fight the Jews. Thereis a long tradition of falsely accusing Popes of anti-Semitism (Jewish author David Raban has written a book on this recently), and this one, former Cardinal Ratzinger who was in Germany during the Nazi era and was in the Hitler youth, is an easy target.
I do read Haaretz often, and it is usually a major intellectual and ethical cut above. So the fact that they confirm that it is the IDF’s booklet that makes these claims, and that it is distributed to officers as an official take on reality is a disturbing level of what to me amounts to war propaganda.
I agree that in this case, since it is a fake mosque in a fake town (built by infidels anyway), there is less offensiveness than if they had taken over a real mosque or a real town and were desecrating the mosque by occupying it and using it for war exercises.
For some reason it reminds me of that dreadful (IMHO) Denzel Washington, Annette Benning movie, The Siege (1998), about terrorists taking over Manhattan, and the crazy female agent who loves them. It died a fast box office death and was in video oblivion until 9/11 revived interest in it.
