This is How I’ve Been Rollin

Cars are the primary mode of transport in Saudi, there are buses on main roads, but they do not run on a known schedule.

So I was very lucky to have this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, black beauty for a couple of days, my son and I love it, this car goes “vroom vroooom” as he says… and he also says “I like this car”… that makes two of us :)

It is a project my brother and his friend are working on, and is a work in progress, and had I been back for good I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat… It brings back so many memories.

When I was a teenager, “the cool” uncle (everybody has one, mine had Jheri curls) had one of these, and it worked without a key :) and an older cousin and I would check if it had gas before we took it without permission for a joy ride, Saudi was safe enough back then for him to leave the t-top open all the time and trust that no one would take it, plus the sound of the engine was enough to wake up the neighborhood.

One of my best friends in the States had one also, so this car was always present in one way or another in my life. As I said, had I been staying, I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat, it is a gas guzzler, and EPA eat your heart out I don’t care about global warming when I drive this car… Yes, this is coming from a guy who only owned and still owns four cylinder cars most of his life… And I do recycle :) but a little indulgence is good for the soul… right?
